Making Research Matter: Pathways to Impact (Tauranga)

What is the ultimate end-goal resulting from your research? After your article/s are published, after other researchers read and cite your work, after you receive media attention or even get cited in policy…what do you hope happens next for your research in the “real world”? Research Impact can be defined as “a change to the economy, society or environment, beyond contribution to knowledge and skills in research organisations” (MBIE). This session will explore what research impact is (and isn’t), and how to plan for impact, rather than merely hoping it will take place.

Topics include:

  • What is research impact?
  • The importance of research impact
  • Differences between outputs, outcomes, and impact
  • Capturing and measuring outcomes, engagement, and impact
  • Tools for planning for impact
